Summer ‘24 Edition

Learn more about this magazine:

  • The client approached me to design a magazine showcasing their gallery’s 2024 summer Plein Air exhibition. The goal was to highlight the event as the main article while featuring the gallery’s broader work. I aimed for a clean, simple design that enhanced the artwork rather than competing with it. After experimenting with various layouts, I incorporated full-spread features to create impactful moments that let the artwork shine and ensured the content flowed seamlessly.

  • I chose Garamond for its timeless elegance and paired it with Georgia for titles, blending tradition with sleek modernity. The gallery’s maritime theme inspired the use of its signature navy blue, complemented by restrained tones to enhance rather than compete with the vibrant artwork, which predominantly featured purple, blue, and green with gold frames. Artwork selection emphasized variety and quality, with the cover featuring a Plein Air piece showcasing an understated yet iconic Newport landmark. An e-flipbook version is also available on the Mariner Gallery website for a seamless digital experience.

  • The design process for this magazine involved a combination of creative tools and close collaboration. Using Adobe InDesign, I developed a layout that balanced elegance and functionality, while Photoshop was essential for refining artwork presentation. I worked closely with the gallery team to align the design with their vision, incorporating feedback to perfect the flow and structure. Creating the e-flipbook required extra attention to detail, ensuring the digital version maintained the same visual impact as the print. This project was both a challenge and a rewarding experience, showcasing my commitment to thoughtful design and seamless execution.
